Everyday Family Session in Gilbert, AZ | The Sittons
Some of my favorite sessions have nothing to do with a location.
No golden hour at the park. No coordinated outfits against a brick wall. Just a family, their home, and whatever a regular afternoon looks like for them.
That's exactly what I got with the Sittons, and it's the session that made me realize I needed to offer this more.
I have been dreaming of venturing into a new way to photograph families...for a loooong time. As I reflect, I am sure that fear of change held me back.
What if no one finds value in this? What if "perfect pinterest" is all they want?
Change is scary and doing the norm is easy, but far less rewarding. So this year I decided it's time to take some risks in my business and this was the first one.
Photographing families as they are, not posturing and fussing over every detail as a photographer is....freeing. Being able to tag along for the ride and capture real life is amazing!
I love the time I spent with the Sittons; there was so much laughter and yet It was super chill. I got watch Kenny read, snuggle and tickle Wyatt. I saw the overwhelming excitement as we headed upstairs to play guitar. To see Bethany watch Wyatt with a ginormous smile on her face, it was so endearing. That's the thing about Everyday sessions. You're not performing for the camera. You're just living, and I happen to be there with a camera.
Why This Works Better Than You'd Think
Most people assume good family photos require a great location. And look, I love a good desert sunset as much as anyone. But what actually makes a photo worth keeping is what's happening between the people in it.
Your home is where that stuff actually lives. The inside jokes, the routines, the way your kid runs to show you something…none of that happens in a parking lot at Riparian Preserve.
Everyday sessions are also genuinely low pressure. There's no "okay everyone look here." There's no wrangling toddlers toward a specific spot. You just do your thing and I follow along.
This Is Especially Good If You Have Young Kids
Small kids are unpredictable in the best way. In a traditional session that can feel stressful, in an Everyday session it's basically the whole point. The chaos, the silliness, the attention span of approximately 45 seconds all of it makes for better photos than any perfectly posed lineup ever could.
