San Diego Engagement Photographer | Sam & Jocelyn at Sunset Cliffs
I've known Jocelyn since she was in sixth grade—she's best friends with my daughter, and let's just say she's come a long way from those awkward middle school days when she was convinced she'd marry Niall from One Direction. Luckily for Sam, that didn't work out. When she and Sam got engaged, I was thrilled they asked me to photograph them. Watching someone you've known that long step into this next chapter? It's special. I'm already counting down to their wedding this March.
We headed to Sunset Cliffs in San Diego for their engagement session. March sunset over the ocean, beach vibes, and two people who are completely in love with each other.
Their Engagement Session at Sunset Cliffs
Sam and Jocelyn are high school sweethearts, and you can tell. The way Sam looks at her—like she's the most perfect woman in the world. The way Jocelyn smiles at him—like a schoolgirl who still can't believe this is real. That's the kind of connection you can't fake in photos.
Sunset Cliffs delivered exactly what we needed. Dramatic ocean views, rocky coastline, that California golden hour light hitting the water. It's one of those locations that does half the work for you—the backdrop is already stunning, so all you have to do is capture the people in front of it. We walked along the beach, sat on the rocks, let them just be together. Romantic, playful, totally themselves. Getting to document both their engagement and wedding feels like the perfect full circle for someone I've watched grow up.y the time their wedding rolls around in March, they'll already be comfortable in front of my camera, which makes everything so much easier.
Tips for Beach Engagement Sessions
Sunset is Non-Negotiable: We shot at Sunset Cliffs in March, and that golden hour light over the ocean was incredible. Schedule your beach session around sunset—it's worth it.
Choose Dramatic Locations: Sunset Cliffs has those rocky coastal views that make California beach sessions stand out. Pick a spot with character, not just sand.
Let the Connection Show: Sam and Jocelyn's dynamic—the way they look at each other—is what made their photos special. Don't force poses. Just be yourselves.
