The Green Family | Downtown Mesa Family Photographer at Mesa Arts Center
I could write for hours about how much I love this family. I've known the Greens for over a decade—we've done so much life together. Raised our girls, been in small group, served at church, had more deep conversations than most. They are my people.
This session at Mesa Arts Center was bittersweet because it'll be the last time I photograph them in Arizona. They're courageously moving to Oklahoma soon, and while I'm happy and excited for them, I know how much I'll miss them. We've shot in just about every spot I love over the past nine years, so I'm already looking forward to celebrating 10 years of photos with them next year in their new hometown.
Okay! So, the following photo was a recreation from the original we shot waaaay back in 2012! We joke every time we do photos about the complete amazingness of this shot :P lol.
You’re not seeing things…the original shot was before Ana (in the yellow dress) was born and featured Chy who is now moved out of state.
Their Fall Session at Mesa Arts Center
The Greens show up ready every single year. Well-coordinated outfits, fun expectations, always excited to try a new location. This year we headed to downtown Mesa and the Mesa Arts Center, which gave us that urban backdrop mixed with some unexpected greenery—pretty bushes and trees that don't feel very Arizona, plus that iconic fountain.
Their three girls are at such different stages, but they still genuinely enjoy being together. The overcast late-day light was perfect—soft and even, no harsh shadows.
Shooting families year after year is one of my favorite things about this job. You get to watch kids grow up, see personalities develop, and document all the in-between moments. The Greens have trusted me with their family story for nearly a decade, and that's not something I take lightly.
Tips for Annual Family Sessions
Find Your Spot: We've shot the Greens all over Arizona over the years. Mixing it up keeps things fresh, but consistency in timing (same season each year) helps you see how much everyone's grown.
Come Ready: The Greens always show up coordinated and excited. That energy translates into the photos—when families are genuinely happy to be there, it shows.
Trust the Process: Overcast light isn't "bad" light. Some of the best family photos happen on cloudy days when the lighting is soft and flattering on everyone.
