These are some of the best people you will ever meet. Really.

Fun story, I’ve served as a wedding coordinator at my church, Redemption Gilbert, for the past 13 years, and this is where I originally met Josh and Aubrey! Fast forward to 2014, I caught up with them again at church (Redemption Gateway) while Josh was working as a youth pastor and I came on staff as an administrative assistant. I had a lot of fun getting to know him and Aubrey during my time there; and they are honestly some of the most down to earth people…I love that about them.

They are now moving across town to plant a church, so new family photos were in order, obvi ;) But hey, any excuse to hang out with them.

Their Downtown Phoenix Session

I’ll just say, if you’re a boy mom - YOU WIN! It’s fun to be around this family dynamic…laugh and have fun watching real life with 4 boys unfold before you, it’s another thing to have this be your whole life! So to Aubrey and the rest of you, #respect.

Josh and Aubrey wanted something urban and different from the typical Arizona desert look, and Roosevelt Row delivered. The graffiti walls, the industrial vibe, the character of downtown Phoenix—it all worked perfectly for their family. Four boys means things move fast. Playful, energetic, lots of motion. We let them be themselves, and that's exactly what made the session work. No forcing everyone to sit still or smile perfectly—just real moments of a family that genuinely enjoys being together.

Tips for Urban Family Sessions with Multiple Kids

  • Morning Sessions Are Key: We shot in January, and that morning light in downtown Phoenix was perfect. Plus, kids have way more patience in the morning before the afternoon meltdown zone.

  • Choose Locations with Character: Roosevelt Row's graffiti walls gave us an urban, edgy backdrop that feels totally different from typical family photos. Pick a location that actually matches your family's vibe.

  • Let the Energy Happen: With four boys, you're not getting perfectly posed portraits, and that's okay. The best photos come from letting kids move and just capturing the real moments.
