After chatting with Laura about her vision for her and Erik's engagement photos, we decided on doing them in March at Papago Park. She was looking for a desert feel...but not "too" deserty. haha. The good news is, Arizona has many different types of desert! Gosh, it was a perfect evening!
Their Papago Park Engagement Session
Laura and Erik were so much fun to shoot. They brought such great energy to the session, and they weren't afraid to show their personalities—which is exactly what I love to see. The best part? They wore opposing football jerseys for a few photos. He's a Cardinals fan, she's all about the Cowboys. The friendly rivalry made for some adorable shots that perfectly capture who they are as a couple.
We shot at sunset, and Papago Park delivered exactly what we wanted—those iconic red rock formations, desert landscape, and the most gorgeous golden hour light. The buttes created such a dramatic backdrop, and as the sun set, the sky lit up with those warm Arizona tones that make Phoenix engagement sessions so special.
Papago Park is one of my go-to spots for engagement sessions in the Phoenix area, and for good reason. It gives you that desert vibe without feeling too remote or harsh. The red sandstone buttes are iconic, the desert plants add texture and interest, and there's enough variety that we can create different looks all in one location.
Plus, it's easily accessible from Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale, and sunset here is absolutely magical. The light wraps around the rocks and creates this warm, romantic glow that's impossible to replicate anywhere else.
