Superstition Mountains Engagement Photographer | Elyse & Spencer

I originally met Elyse when I photographed her high school graduation, so getting to shoot her engagement photos felt like coming full circle. Watching someone grow up and then document this next chapter? That's special.

We headed to the Superstition Mountains in November for a late afternoon session. The sky was overcast and moody, which honestly made everything even better. No harsh desert sun, just soft, even light and dramatic clouds over those iconic mountain peaks.

Their Engagement Session at the Superstitions

Elyse and Spencer brought all the playful energy. Big smiles, constant laughter, totally excited to be there. You could tell Elyse was genuinely pumped for this session, and Spencer was right there with her matching that energy.

The Superstition Mountains are one of those Arizona locations that just works. Dramatic desert landscape and enough space to move around without feeling crowded. Add in moody November skies, and you've got something that doesn't look like every other desert engagement session.

I love when couples can just let go and be just be themselves. The best engagement photos happen when couples forget I'm there and just enjoy being together. Elyse and Spencer nailed that—laughing, kissing, completely comfortable with each other.

Tips for Desert Engagement Sessions

  • Overcast Skies Aren't Bad: We shot under moody November clouds, and the soft, even lighting was perfect. Don't cancel your session just because it's not sunny—embrace the drama.

  • Afternoon Sessions Can Work: Late afternoon gave us great light without the intensity of midday sun. The Superstitions look incredible in softer light.

  • Bring the Energy: Elyse showed up excited and ready, and that enthusiasm made everything better. Your photos will reflect whatever energy you bring to the session.
