Downtown Phoenix Family Photographer | The Heaton Family
Sydney is a close friend of mine. We met at church over five years ago and have been in small group together ever since. So when the Heaton family wanted to do something different for their session—urban, edgy, graffiti walls—I was all in.
We shot in downtown Phoenix in May, and the morning light was bright and fun. Blake, Sydney, and their four girls came dressed for the occasion, ready to lean into that urban vibe. This family knows how to show up.
Their Downtown Phoenix Session
Downtown Phoenix has this mix of grit and color that's perfect when you want something besides the typical desert backdrop. Graffiti walls, textured buildings, concrete and character. The Heaton’s wanted urban, and downtown delivered.
Four girls at completely different stages, but they all brought their fun personalities. Sydney and I have been doing life together for years, and it's always special when I get to document families I'm close to. These aren't just clients—they're people I care about.
Tips for Urban Family Sessions
Embrace the Setting: Downtown Phoenix graffiti walls aren't for everyone, but if your family has style and wants something edgy, lean all the way in. Dress for the vibe.
Morning Light in the City: We shot in May, and that bright morning light worked perfectly against the urban backdrop. City sessions don't have to be moody—bright and fun can be just as good.
Mix Serious and Playful: Some shots were album-cover serious, others were casual and laughing. Don't feel like you have to pick one vibe—do both.

Let's Make This Happen
These are the sessions I love—families who show up ready to have fun and be themselves. If that sounds like you, let's talk.
