Mesa Newborn Photographer | The Fitzsimmons Family In-Home Newborn Session

Josh and Amanda are dear friends from church. We've been in small group together for years, so when Calvin arrived, I knew I wanted to gift them a newborn session.

This session was particularly sweet because Calvin is their first. Amanda is one of the sweetest people I know—I love her dearly—and watching her and Josh step into being parents was such a gift to witness.

We shot at their home in Mesa on a spring morning, and the natural window light was perfect. Cozy, intimate, tender. These weren't the stiff posed newborn photos you see everywhere—this was just them being a new family, soaking in every moment with Calvin.

Their In-Home Newborn Session

In-home newborn sessions have this magic that studio sessions just don't. You're documenting your family in the space where you'll actually raise your baby. The couch where you'll nurse a thousand times, the window light you'll stand in when they won't sleep, the dogs who are trying to figure out what this tiny human is all about.

The Fitzsimmons have two Frenchies…their other babies and including them in the session felt right! They're completely obsessed with Calvin, as they should be. First-time parents have this tenderness that's so special to capture. Everything is new, everything matters, and they're just trying to soak it all in. Almost makes me miss those early day…almost.

Tips for In-Home Newborn Sessions

  • Natural Light is Everything: We shot in the morning using window light, and it made everything feel soft and intimate. You don't need a fancy studio setup—just good windows ;)

  • Black and White Feels Timeless: This entire session is in black and white, which keeps the focus on connection and emotion rather than decor or color coordination.

  • Include Your Pets: If you have dogs (or cats) who are part of your family, bring them in. Those photos become even more meaningful as time goes on.

These are the sessions I love—families who show up ready to have fun and be themselves. If that sounds like you, let's talk.
